The small building at number 16 Vico Figurari has belonged to our family since the late 19th century. Originally, it was composed of three traditional workshops, a "basso" (a typical ground-floor dwelling) with two small upper rooms, and two main floors with an entrance at number 16.
In these workshops, it is highly likely that artisans crafted figures of shepherds and Saints — most notably San Gennaro — using wood, stucco, and papier-mâché.In fact, Naples historically named its streets after the specific arts and crafts practiced in that location.
Vico Figurari takes its name from the "Figurari": skilled artisans who, dating back to Roman times, created terracotta figurines in their workshops as offerings to deities such as Demeter, Apollo, and Diana.
A guest house in this location could have no other name than Figurari 16 Rooms. It stands as a tribute to over two thousand years of history, where talented artisans continue to create figures — once dedicated to ancient gods, and today to contemporary icons.
